The Miranda Brothers’ New Series Arcadia Launches on Kickstarter

Genre-bending sci-fi series from Ignition Press debuts with “Cold Open” offering

Los Angeles, CA (September 2, 2025) – Ignition Press is excited to announce the launch of the Kickstarter campaign for Arcadia: The Cold Open from Roy and Inaki Miranda (We Life, Blade Forger). This will be Ignition Press’ second crowdfunding campaign following the successful Murder Podcast: The Cold Open Kickstarter this past May.

In a future where humanity has vanished, a new form of life arises from the ruins of a long-forgotten war: the Serants, artificial beings born from mysterious technological chrysalises known as Superdragons. Each one carries a Pearl, a biotechnological core that holds their consciousness, their memories... their soul.

In Arcadia, humans are just a memory; their civilization just ruins and old bones. War itself has become a relic of the past that decorates the landscape with the bodies of the dead, abandoned war machines, and the footprints of battle. Nature has started to reclaim the Earth, but the scars of history are still everywhere. Those who remain were born out of conflict, awakening in giant silos, unaware of their origins, but still fueled by the imperative to survive. A brave few continue to help them, even as they must maintain their own survival in a landscape with few resources left. And our story begins in Arcadia: The Cold Open.

First announced as part of the publisher’s “Ignition Sequence: SDCC” promotional initiative and previewed at the Ignition Press Room, Arcadia is a work of existential science fiction. It’s profoundly human, creating a world where memory and love endure as a precious mystery that refuses to fade. It’s a story that explores what makes us human...when humanity is no longer there to deliver the answer.

"Arcadia was born out of an obsession: the need to create a world that breathes myth, emotion, poetry, and visual epicness in every page,” said co-creator, co-writer, and artist Inaki Miranda. “We wanted to go beyond traditional science fiction and tell a story that allows us to deconstruct the most essential feelings of human life, set in a world where the very paradigm of humanity has vanished. How do you rebuild the human myth from its echoes? From the ruins of war, from fractured memory, and from that burning will to live that drives the leap from mere survival toward love, friendship, and eternity.”

"Arcadia draws from the great traditions of classic adventure stories, action, westerns, romance, horror, coming-of-age tales, drama and comedy. It seeks to open doors that evoke the human experience—doors that feel familiar and intimate, even when they lead into a desolate and strange world. Though it tells of beings born from war and impossible Superdragon chrysalises, at its heart lies the essential question: what does it mean to live? What vast secret does reality hide? What are we… who are we?” added co-creator and co-writer Roy Miranda. “Above all, Arcadia is an exploration of the emotional legacy we leave behind in life. This project represents our most ambitious work to date, and we want to embark on this unique journey together with readers who long to feel part of something greater than themselves."

Written by Roy and Inaki, collectively billed as the Miranda Bros., and drawn by Inaki, Arcadia reunites them with colorist Eva de la Cruz and letterer Dave Sharpe. This team has been responsible for the breakout hit series We Live and more recently Blade Forger. Inaki and Eva also worked on the Eisner-nominated Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons with their Ignition Press editor, Jamie S. Rich.

“Drawing Arcadia has taken me into unexplored creative territory, pushing me to make a qualitative leap in my art—together with Eva’s indispensable colors. It’s a project that frightens me as much as it excites me,” explained Inaki. “This Kickstarter is not just a launch—it’s an invitation for readers to step into this universe with us from its very first heartbeat. Our intention is for Arcadia to become a true shared odyssey, an immense emotional journey we want to embark on with as many readers as possible."

The ambitious 12-issue event series will debut in comic shops and on digital channels in November, but beginning today, fans of sprawling sci-fi epics with a deeply human heart can reserve a copy of the standalone introductory comic – Arcadia: The Cold Open. Each Cold Open is an entry point in the form of a single comic book issue featuring a self-contained comic book vignette introducing readers to the world, the stakes, and characters of a larger story – in this case, Arcadia. The issue contains a satisfying and complete short story, information on how to get the rest of the series through more traditional retail channels like comic shops, digital marketplaces, and bookstores, along with behind-the-scenes material.

The campaign offers both standard and limited editions of Arcadia: The Cold Open with covers by Inaki Miranda and superstar art team Jae Lee and June Chung. Also available through the campaign are limited signed and remarked editions and exclusive limited-edition merchandise to create a truly immersive experience. The campaign fulfillment is scheduled to coincide with the initial ordering period for Arcadia #1 with campaign backers scheduled to receive their rewards prior to the first issue’s street date. Additional details regarding solicitation and distribution of Arcadia #1 and beyond are forthcoming.

The Arcadia: The Cold Open campaign is live on Kickstarter now and will run from 10am PST on September 2nd, 2025, until 10am PST on October 2nd, 2025.
